Community Supporters and Friends,
Mamas of Color Rising is a collective of working class and poor mothers of color. We are interested in organizing ourselves and other women/mamas of color around issues with accessing needs like food, housing, education and safety, finding out together what our larger ideal community looks like and building it together. We have created a survey as part of a larger Revolutionary Mamas collective and it is circulating nationally with the intention to document stories and find common themes in the lives of mamas and caregivers and to create a national platform. Also, in the past we have produced a zine ( with the Revolutionary Mamas), a board game and 2 workshops and now are hoping to make a documentary.We are a part of a larger national collective with INCITE! women of color against violence. As part of our work with INCITE!, several of us have been involved with their national media task force. We are also working on continuing to hold regular potlucks, build a trading network of needed services and goods between women of color, and a project for birth support.
Currently Mamas of Color Rising is raising funds to send a few of our members to the 11TH annual Allied Media Conference http://www.alliedmediaconference.org/) in Detroit July 17th-19th. We are hoping to attend this conference for the second time in order to further our project of documenting welfare/birth stories as well as to continue building a strong women of color radio collective here in Austin.
